Introducing Couture for a Cause 2012

Volunteerism. Fashion. Raleigh.  Those are three things I love and am very passionate about.  They are also the perfect words to describe Activate Good’s Couture for a Cause fashion show taking place on November 10th at Marbles Kids Museum, downtown Raleigh. This fashion-packed evening includes a rocking runway show with couture garments, a silent and live auction, cash bar, light appetizers and dessert, and more. Tickets are on sale now!

When I first moved to Raleigh in 2010, I immediately wanted to get involved in volunteer work. I did an internet search and found Activate Good’s website. My passion is the fashion industry, so I was excited there was a wonderful volunteer opportunity that matched my interests – planning a fashion show fundraiser! That fundraiser was Couture for a Cause. I worked as the designer coordinator for the event for two years, then accepted a board position with Activate Good as the Couture for a Cause chair. It is a match made in fashion heaven – I rarely have a conversation where I don’t enthusiastically mention Couture for a Cause!

Couture for a Cause isn’t a typical fashion show. I’ve worked in the fashion industry for over 10 years and I have never seen anything quite like Couture for a Cause. In this perfect blend of fashion meets philanthropy, we pair local designers with Activate Good’s non-profit partners. Those designers create custom, couture garments that reflect the mission of that non-profit. Nowhere in the world would you be able to own these one-of-a-kind, gorgeous pieces but you get that chance when we auction off the designs in a live auction after the runway show.

This year we are showcasing 20 nonprofit partners from around the Triangle. As the models take to the runway, the emcee will tell the audience about the nonprofit’s mission and how they impact our local community. You can’t help but be amazed and ask yourself, “How can I get involved with one of these nonprofits?”  Activate Good will give you that opportunity: Sign up that evening at the Activate Good table (or online, at any time) to be a volunteer and get connected to a volunteer opportunity that matches your interests.

Couture for a Cause is a great evening of local fashion and fun. From the luxurious silent auction items up for bid to the cocktails and cupcakes, you will have a blast all while supporting volunteerism in the great state of North Carolina!
