Wake County Commissioner Jessica Holmes received her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and New York. Currently, she is an education law attorney for the North Carolina Association of Educators. As a first generation college student, her top priority is addressing the cycle of poverty by ensuring access to a quality education for all students.
In November 2014 she was elected as the youngest commissioner ever elected in Wake County’s history. She has a passion for education advocacy and a strong sense of community. She enjoys serving on the Board of Directors of InterAct of Wake County, the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children, Wake County Smart Start and the Leadership Council of the Wake Education Partnership. Most recently, she had a vision to address affordability in Wake County and worked to create and lead Wake County’s first Affordable Housing Committee.
