2011 in Review

Welcome, 2012! There’s no question 2011 was an action-packed year for our local community, and included many exciting events and changes for Activate Good, too. We’d like to take a moment to reflect on some of our highlights from 2011 – From hosting our first Martin Luther King Jr. weekend Sunday Supper, to meeting our friend “Mr. Bongo”, to rebranding as Activate Good and launching our new volunteer community, 2011 has been a year of change, growth, and connection with volunteers and friends old and new. Here it is, folks: Activate Good’s 2011 highlights! Still known as ME³, we kicked off 2011 by hosting our first Sunday Supper to honor Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. About 60 community members from all walks of life, including representatives of area nonprofits, came together to discuss issues like homelessness, hunger, and youth development while connecting over a meal. New friends–and volunteer connections–were made that night while we enjoyed the spirit of community. Stay tuned for information about our 2nd annual Sunday Supper taking place in 2012 on January 15! We were honored to be chosen as the charity beneficiary of Raleigh Twestival when March came around and meet the good folks who hosted and co-sponsored the event, including YNPN of the Triangle, Triangle AMA, Tweet Divas, Yelp, and other social media savvy citizens. Later in the spring, as the Great Human Race neared, we made friends with Mr. Bongo, an idealistic gorilla who championed our message that anybody can do good. We know he’s still out there doing good deeds. Tragedy struck as the Raleigh tornado tore homes apart on April 16,...

Rock Stars of Couture for a Cause

Couture for a Cause and other Activate Good activities are made possible by the dedication and hard work of the volunteers behind them! This week, we’d like to take the time to recognize the Rock Stars of Couture for a Cause 2011 whose efforts helped us raise over $13,000 for our programs. For months leading up to the event, they met, planned, coordinated, created, called, walked, and drove around in search of the perfect materials or auction items, and hung posters everywhere any one would take them! Meet our Couture for a Cause 2011 Rock Stars… Corie Queen of Coordination, Graphics Guru In awe of the beautiful graphics decorating the Couture for a Cause website, event programs, Activate Good website and more? So are we! Credit goes to Corie Lambdin, who not only coordinated our efforts and our planning team for Couture for a Cause throughout 2011, but lent her own artistic talent to making the event a beautiful, classy-looking one. Corie is one of the Couture for a Cause original rock stars, dedicating her time and talent to Activate Good time and time again for the past three years.   Marissa Leading Lady of Logistics Marissa Ackerman’s the glamorous gal who directed our logistics efforts, making it possible for us to accommodate more guests at Couture for a Cause than in 2010, feed them delicious food, get our models walking down the runway to high energy beats, and take our event to the next level with a high tech equipment set up. Marissa’s logistics efforts helped keep the team organized and ready to take on our biggest Couture...
