- Around 13.5 million people live within a food desert, having low access to supermarkets or large grocery stores.
- Just under 590,000 households in North Carolina alone do not have enough food each day.
- More than 1.5 million North Carolina residents are facing food insecurity.
- Food programs such as food stamps and school lunches help around 53 million people in the US.
- Black and Hispanic families in the US are most likely to not have consistent access to healthy food options.
- The World hunger crisis affects nearly 10% of the world population.
- Due to COVID-19, many grocery stores and markets that helped underserved communities were closed down, raising the risk of food insecurity in households across the United States.
- 30-40% of the United States food supply is wasted every year.
