To break the cycle of poverty and create generational self-sufficiency for the individuals and families of Wake County by helping them achieve housing and income security.
Passage Home—incorporated in 1991 as a 501c3—is Wake County’s Community Action Agency and anti-poverty organization serving families living in poverty, families at risk of falling into the vicious cycle of poverty, and veterans. Passage Home has offices in South Park and Millbrook, Raleigh and in Zebulon.
Over three decades, Passage Home has grown from an agency assisting a few families a year to a full-service anti-poverty organization providing workforce training, comprehensive case management, affordable housing, and other interventions to help families overcome their barriers to self-sufficiency.
Passage Home also steers a sophisticated community redevelopment strategy in the historic South Park section of Raleigh. Passage Home owns and manages more than 130 units of low-income housing, works with a group of affinity landlords to provide low-income housing to more than 100 families a year, and maintains two urban gardens.
All of Passage Home’s work focuses on the Social Determinants of Health that have a long-term, large influence on the outcomes for the families we serve. Passage Home creates safe, stable home environments where the head of the family has the ability to focus on long-term goals that will help lift themselves and their family out of the cycle of poverty and towards generational self-sufficiency.
