Operation Empower Readers
Volunteer to help 8,100 kids read this summer
Did you know? Having more books at home can build healthy reading habits, a love of literacy, and positively influence success in school. Join Activate Good as we partner with WAKE Up and Read to help 8,100 children in Wake County build their home libraries this spring and summer.

Volunteers will help prepare books for distribution by sorting, counting, bagging, boxing, receiving, or organizing books and materials at WAKE Up and Read’s location off Capital Blvd in Raleigh.
Time Commitment: 2.5 hours (volunteer once, or sign up for multiple shifts!)
Ages: 12 and up with parent/guardian supervision; 15 and up without a parent or guardian. All youth must submit a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Lead a Book Drive or Donate Books
Prefer a DIY approach? Donate books yourself, or host a book drive in your neighborhood, civic club, place of worship, business, and more!
- Donate Books: Drop off new or gently-read children’s books at the WAKE Up and Read location in Raleigh on Tuesdays between 10 AM and 7 PM or on Fridays between 10 AM and 4 PM.
- Lead a Book Drive: Sign up to lead a book drive by clicking the red button below. After you sign up, you’ll receive a complete toolkit with step-by-step instructions, printable flyers, and more!
Volunteer Virtually to inspire readers
Volunteer virtually and help out in 20 minutes or less by participating in WAKE Up and Read’s I Am A Reader campaign!
It is important that children see themselves and the people they look up to as readers. When you join the #IAmAReader Campaign, you’ll choose your favorite book, upload a picture of yourself with the book, and answer questions about the book that will inspire kids to read.
Your submission will be used as part of WAKE Up and Read’s #IAmAReader social media and print campaign.
On the form, be sure to let WAKE Up and Read know that Activate Good sent you!
