The mission of Junior Achievement (JA) is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. In partnership with business and educators, JA brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential. JA programs deal with real issues like workforce readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship so that young people not only understand their opportunities in life, but can also take advantage of those opportunities.
As a JA volunteer, you will be the “classroom consultant” for a teacher who has requested a JA program for his/her students. After a brief JA orientation, you choose the school, grade level and program from the list of educators who have requested JA programs. Then schedule the visits directly with the teacher to match your availability with that of the teacher. This volunteer opportunity is for a specific number of lessons for 30-60 minutes over a period of weeks. JA provides a program kit, which includes a step-by-step guide, lesson plans and all the necessary classroom materials. The JA curriculum allows for creativity so you can add your own personal touch with real-world examples. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please contact us at (919)821-2100 or visit our website www.jaoenc.org.
