Volunteer horse leaders groom, tack and lead our therapy horses during their weekly lessons.

Helping Horse offers therapeutic horseback riding lessons for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Lessons range from 30 minutes to an hour and are scheduled throughout the week.

Horse leader volunteers should have horse experience and the ability to keep our horses under control at all times. Horse leaders should be at least 16 years old and attend a monthly horse leader workshop at the farm. We typically ask our horse leaders to arrive 30 minutes before the lesson starts in order to groom and tack the horse for the lesson as well as staying after to un-tack the horse and return it to it's pasture or stall. Horse leaders are required to wear close toe shoes while working with the horses.

For more info about leading our horses, or to schedule to attend one of our monthly volunteer orientation and horse leader workshop sessions, please email our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@helpinghorse.org
