What You'll Do:Communities in Schools of Durham is seeking volunteers for Durham Performance Learning Center.
Must be 18 years or older
Details:In 2016-2017, more than 450 students dropped out of Durham schools. Youth who drop out of school are:
· More than twice as likely to live in poverty;
· More likely to depend on social services; and
· More likely to be incarcerated.
Communities in Schools of Durham is working towards ending the dropout crisis.
In 2007-2008, Communities in Schools of Durham collaborated with Durham Public Schools to open the Durham Performance Learning Center (PLC). PLC helps high school students who are not succeeding in a traditional high school setting to get back on track towards graduation.
We are seeking open-minded, supportive volunteers to provide academic assistance to PLC students on Friday mornings. On Fridays from 9am-12pm, PLC students get extra help if they are behind or struggling in class. Volunteers would work with Nick Gagnon who is the Graduation Coach at PLC. Nick will place volunteers with students from his case load who are in need of academic assistance.
If you are interested in volunteering with PLC high school students on Fridays from 9am-12pm, please contact the Volunteer Coordinators, Sarah Costine and Jessica Barner, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
