City of Raleigh Special Events GREEN TEAM

Volunteer Raleigh

What You'll Do:

The City of Raleigh’s Special Event Recycling Task Force is looking to limit recycling contamination at special events in the city’s downtown and reduce the amount of material that ends up in the landfill by educating attendees at events about the use of our receptacles.

This opportunity has passed.

pecial events frequently generate a significant number of empty bottles, cans, and plastic cups that can easily be recycled. By encouraging recycling at events, we can help extend the life of landfills and prevent contamination at recycling facilities.

Volunteers will help guests sort their trash into recycling and landfill trash. The team will also educate folks about reading signage and what can and cannot be recycled.

Downtown Event:
Saturday- April 27, 2019

2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Volunteers Needed: 20 – 40 volunteers each shift

Volunteers will be standing for their shift near trash and recycling containers. When full, they will roll them a short distance to the Solid Waste Services staff to empty and return.

Water will be available for volunteers. From the event organizers: Fayetteville St. is known for being windy and is usually several degrees lower in temperature than other areas due to the tall buildings. Temperatures will cool as the sun goes down, so please plan accordingly if you think you will need a jacket or sweatshirt in the evening.

Volunteers will receive 1 free drink for signing up for one shift, a t-shirt & choice of water-bottle/hat/lunch bag

Volunteers check-in when they arrive to receive a volunteer badge and the badge will be returned at the end of their shift to help ensure volunteers/employees aren’t drinking while on duty.
