What You'll Do:The internship experience will provide experience in all areas of running a nonprofit organization. We are a small organization that provides a lot of opportunity to gain nonprofit operations and development experience. This is an unpaid internship.

We Plant it Forward (WPiF) Operations and Development Intern will work at the WPiF office in Raleigh and event sites (during Covid-19 restrictions most work will be done virtually and all work will be done within the guidelines set by local and state officials). Some site work may be located outside the Triangle area. This is an unpaid internship, WPiF will cover training expenses and other reasonable expenses incurred by the Intern in the course of work performed at WPiF. In order to maintain social distancing, work will be done remotely at intern’s own work space using online video conferencing. Once covid-19 restrictions are lifted, we will meet at co-working space.
Scope of work(includes any or some in the list below)
Work with We Plant it Forward Supervisor on all aspects of running this nonprofit organization, which may include but is not limited to the following skills:
Operational – track product distribution (trees and rain barrels) · financial reporting assignments · budget development assignments · program analysis deep work sessions · annual reporting assignments · filing/organizing documents · software applications (Google Apps, Asana, Tsheets, Adobe apps) · operations processes.
Communications and Outreach – general communications · social media, press releases · outreach development and execution.
Program and Fund Development – research potential grantors and sponsors · maintain master “fund” spreadsheet · work with team on grant applications and sponsor solicitations · follow up with potential sponsors as directed by the supervisor · work with other team members to draft grant proposal · research grant requirements and deadlines · draft letters of inquiry · conduct (with WPiF Supervisor) informational interviews with grantors and sponsors · edit and finalize grant proposals and sponsorship agreements · take recommended training (registration covered by WPiF) · work with a team on deep analysis of current programs content and program outreach to expand areas of work.

Each week, the Program Intern will work a total of 150 hours on assigned tasks for WPiF. The Intern will work with a WPiF supervisor to create a schedule that works best for the intern and WPiF supervisor. Engagement Meetings will be held with the WPiF supervisor, at least once a week to discuss the work being done.
Work Product and Workflow
During weekly Engagement Meetings the Environmental Program Intern will report what work she/they/he has completed, what remains to be done and share any work product produced. The WPiF Supervisor and Program Intern will outline together the tasks to complete for the coming week. Work conducted by the Intern will include both individual and team work. The intern will present all work products to the Intern’s Supervisor prior to public release.
By the end of the internship, the Operations and Development Intern will have had the opportunity to assist in coordinating all aspects of at least one WPiF event, have good understanding of the operations needed to sustain a nonprofit organization, will help identify new community partners and sponsors for WPiF and assisted with writing one grant.
