Details:

Volunteers will work in teams to help build new hiking trails at the Horseshoe Road Nature Preserve, a 158-acre property owned by Tar River Land Conservancy (TRLC) near Creedmoor in southern Granville County. The new trail that you will help build will lead visitors through pine and hardwood forest, across several streams, and past beautiful wetlands frequented by wildlife.

Each volunteer day will be led by a TRLC staff member or experienced trail-building volunteer. Trails will be constructed using hand-tools including loppers, hand saws, rakes, and shovels. Volunteers may assist in the construction of wooden footbridges and benches along the trail. Tools and safety equipment will be provided by TRLC. No previous experience needed. New volunteers will be paired with experienced volunteers who will provide training and support.

Our goals are to finish 2 miles of trails and open the nature preserve to the public in June 2022. Please donate a few hours to help us reach our goal. Once this nature preserve is opened to the public, visitors will have access to the trails year-round during daylight hours. Volunteers can look forward to returning to this property to enjoy the trails for years to come!

Impact Statement:

Please help Tar River Land Conservancy create a new hiking trail destination for individuals and families to enjoy in the Triangle. Now, more than ever, people need places close to home to walk in the woods, breathe fresh air, and appreciate nature!
