What You'll Do:

Give walking tours of Historic Oberlin Village, focusing on the historical significance of the African American Oberlin Village community.

Must be 18 years or older

Lead walking tours of the Historic Oberlin Village, including the Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin Rising, Historic Structures and Latta Historic Park, which encompasses approximately 4 blocks.
Length of tours is approximately 1-1 ½ hours.
Volunteers should feel comfortable speaking in front of groups (tour attendees can range from 3 – 15 people).
Tours are regularly scheduled on the second Saturday of the month at 10am. Custom tours are also requested throughout the week.
8- 10 hours of training will be provided prior to first solo tour, including shadowing other tour guides, viewing documentaries on Oberlin and reading research on the community.

Impact Statement:

Few realize the significance of this African American Oberlin Village community, founded in 1858 by a free Black. A walking tour provides participants with stories of the founders’ and their families’ strengths, struggles and national contributions.
