What You'll Do:Give walking tours of Historic Oberlin Village, focusing on the historical significance of the African American Oberlin Village community.
Must be 18 years or older
Details:Lead walking tours of the Historic Oberlin Village, including the Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin Rising, Historic Structures and Latta Historic Park, which encompasses approximately 4 blocks.
Length of tours is approximately 1-1 ½ hours.
Volunteers should feel comfortable speaking in front of groups (tour attendees can range from 3 – 15 people).
Tours are regularly scheduled on the second Saturday of the month at 10am. Custom tours are also requested throughout the week.
8- 10 hours of training will be provided prior to first solo tour, including shadowing other tour guides, viewing documentaries on Oberlin and reading research on the community.
Impact Statement:Few realize the significance of this African American Oberlin Village community, founded in 1858 by a free Black. A walking tour provides participants with stories of the founders’ and their families’ strengths, struggles and national contributions.
