10 Random Acts of Kindness that help Triangle Nonprofits

Looking for ways to help spread some cheer and give back to your community? February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day and Activate Good has plenty of opportunities to do good!

“Volunteering is only one of many ways to be kind,” said Lee Posey Pike, Activate Good. “Just as there are different ways to volunteer, there are endless ways to be kind, everyday.”

Whether you want to volunteer in person or take on a project remotely, here are 10 Triangle nonprofits where you can carry out your own random acts of kindness!

Operation Mask Up (Raleigh) in person

You can help in the fight against COVID-19! Activate Good needs volunteers to assemble mask kits to be distributed across Wake County.

DIY Family Essentials Kits (Activate Good – Raleigh) remote

A great project for the whole family! Activate Good provides you with a list of items to create your own kits. You shop, assemble the kit, create your own card of encouragement, and drop it off at a participating agency. Easy and fun!

Zakat Foundation for America (Durham) remote

This opportunity with the Zakat Foundation is the perfect project to show off your artistic skills! You can do this project at home on your own or get some help from the family. Create a set of ten cards using glitter, paint, markers, or any other art tools you’ve got.

Food Bank (Durham) in person

Come out to the Food Bank of Durham and help fight hunger. You will sort and re-package food to be distributed in the community. So many individuals and families face food insecurity and this is a fantastic way to make a difference in their lives.

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (online) remote

If you like teaching and working with kids, this volunteer opportunity with USCRI is perfect for you! Tutor school-age refugee and immigration children via online learning from your home. These kids are all ages and grade levels, with varying levels of English fluency. School subjects include math, science, reading, history, or general homework help.

Diaper Bank of NC (Durham) in person

Like many non-profits, the Diaper Bank has seen a sharp increase in people asking for help. For parents and caregivers, diapers are a critical necessity. You can help by wrapping packages of diapers to give to those in need.

Special Blessings (Knightdale) in person

Spend your afternoon at a special one-time event! Special Blessings is hosting a socially distanced event for families with children with developmental disabilities. You get to dress up as a special character and help guide families through a designated path. Spread some joy and happiness!

Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina (Raleigh) in person

A great place to lend a hand! The team at AASC needs volunteers to help unload, sort, and stock the food pantry with donated food items.  Good opportunity for individuals or small groups.
