Virtual Volunteer-A-Thon

Project Type: Pick Up & Return

Instructions: View Pick Up & Return Project descriptions below. Then, click the ‘sign up’ link and complete the sign up process on the Activate Good site to adopt the project(s) of your choice!

Volunteers Needed: 12

This project is best for: Individuals or groups of any age!

Estimated Time Commitment in April 2021: 4-6 hours

Skills Needed: If you can count to 10 or 25, you can help through this opportunity!

What You’ll Do: Volunteers will pick-up products from the Diaper Bank’s Durham warehouse to take home and package.

How This Project Helps: Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diaper Bank has seen a 2000% increase in the  need for adult incontinence products, an 800% increase in the need for period products, and a  400% increase in the need for diapers. At the same time, the Diaper Bank has been operating with a severe volunteer shortage. We rely heavily on volunteer support to repackage diapers, period products, and adult incontinence items so that we can quickly get them to those in need

Deadline to Submit Final Project: We are asking that you complete your Virtual Volunteer-A-Thon projects by April 30, 2021

Communication: You’ll hear from Activate Good a few times throughout April to make sure you’re all set and on track!

Notes: Activate Good will provide you with helpful links, contacts, resources, and complete project instructions upon sign up.

Volunteers Needed: 20

This project is best for: An individual adult or small group of teens and adults

Estimated Time Commitment in April 2021: 1-6 hours

Skills Needed: A love of books is always a bonus!

What You’ll Do: Volunteers will pick up 7 – 10 boxes of donated books from the WAKE Up and Read Center, then sort the books at home for usability and genre according to the provided instructions. When everything is sorted, volunteers will count and box the books into WAKE Up and Read categories.  Each box will be labeled with a color coded label and a total number of books. When everything is sorted and boxed, books will be returned to WAKE Up and Read.

How This Project Helps: Thousands of Wake County children do not have books in their homes. The presence of books in the home positively influences academic growth and career success. Having the books sorted helps WAKE Up and Read have age appropriate books ready to give out at our 13 partner schools, 17 childcare centers, dozens of partner agencies, and around the community to help build home libraries.
