Organization prepares for new leadership
After nearly two decades of dedicated service and leadership, Amber Smith, Founder and Executive Director of Activate Good, is set to depart from her role later this year. This transition marks a new chapter for both Amber and the organization as it continues its mission to inspire community action in the Triangle region.
Under Amber’s leadership, Activate Good has partnered with over 600 local nonprofits and schools and connected over 50,000 community members – including youth and families, individuals and groups, and businesses – to ways to serve Triangle causes. Recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Activate Good kept the community engaged through virtual and remote volunteer opportunities, and was a key partner to Wake County Public School System to mobilize volunteer support to ensure 10,000 students without internet access received WiFi devices.
Amber Smith and friend Heather Leah started Activate Good in 2005 after a 3-month long road trip volunteering in over 20 states.
As Amber seeks new opportunities to make a positive impact, her legacy remains a vital part of Activate Good’s foundation. “Launching and growing Activate Good has been a great honor and joy in my life. Our team is passionate and strong, and I’m excited to see how the organization continues its amazing impacts!” Amber shares her reflections on her work in a video announcing this transition.
The process of selecting a new Executive Director has been thoughtful and strategic, ensuring the continuity of Activate Good’s vision and values. A Succession Planning Committee, formed by Activate Good’s Board of Directors, is diligently overseeing this transition. “We are incredibly grateful for Amber’s strong vision of doing good through volunteerism, and her 10+ years of leadership as Activate Good’s Founder and Executive Director,” shares Olivia Ecker, Activate Good Board Chair. “During this transformational time for the organization, we have an expert Board of Directors in place, who are committed to ensuring a smooth transition as we recruit and onboard the organization’s next Executive Director in pursuit of making continuous positive impacts through service in our community.”
Amber’s last day is scheduled for May 31, 2024, with farewell activities planned to honor her past contributions. The organization assures all stakeholders that operations, projects, and programming will continue seamlessly during this transition. As Activate Good embarks on this new journey, its Board of Directors and Staff remain steadfast in its mission to create a world where everyone realizes and acts on their potential to bring about positive change. The organization extends its heartfelt gratitude to Amber Smith for her unwavering commitment and inspirational leadership.
