We are very excited to have you and your family with us all this Family Volunteer Day.
This year, are very fortunate to have twelve organizations join us to participate in this special day and they have created amazing projects your families to complete!
Project Stations

Crowder County Park
Project: Creating Seed Bombs
Volunteers will be combining the seed bomb matrix provided with a mix of native wildflower seeds. They will roll them into balls and place them on a tray to dry. Once dry, the seed bombs will be dispersed between the Wake County Parks to help feed our pollinators.
Located in the Cary-Apex area of Wake County, Crowder County Park spans 33 acres and offers environmental educational programs for all ages. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities like science experiments and art, exploring the natural world with park naturalists. The park also features hiking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds, providing a space for both recreation and learning.
Diaper Bank of North Carolina
Project: Diaper Wrapping
Volunteers will count and wrap diapers to prepare them for distribution to families across the state.
The Diaper Bank of North Carolina addresses diaper needs by providing diapers, period products, and adult incontinence supplies to families across the state. Collaborating with over 145 social service organizations, they distribute essential hygiene products to thousands of families monthly, aiming to promote and protect the dignity of each resident.
Book Harvest
Project: Creating Bookmarks
Volunteers will help make bookmarks to provide for their various programs and at various events. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to make their own bookmarks or to use a template that they provide.
Book Harvest is a Durham-based nonprofit that provides books and literacy support to children and families in North Carolina. Since 2011, they have offered programs like Book Babies and Books on Break, aiming to nourish young minds, spark imagination, and transform lives through access to books.
Project Linus - Wake County
Project: No-Sew Blanket Making
Volunteers will make fleece blankets that will go to children in need in Wake County.
Project Linus is a nationwide nonprofit that provides handmade blankets to children in need, offering comfort and warmth. Based in Belton, Missouri, and led by dedicated directors Patty Gregory and Mary Balagna, the organization has chapters in all 50 states, distributing blankets to hospitals, shelters, and social service agencies. Project Linus frequently garners media coverage, which has helped to expand its reach and impact across the country.
We Plant it Forward
Project: Processing Tree Seeds
Volunteers will process tree seeds by removing the outer shell or fruit, sorting seeds, water testing seeds, and weighing and labeling the tree seeds.
We Plant it Forward is a nonprofit organization based in North Carolina dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural environment through community engagement and education. Their mission focuses on promoting environmental stewardship by organizing tree planting events, distributing native tree seedlings, and conducting rain barrel workshops to encourage water conservation. They also offer hands-on environmental education programs, aiming to foster a culture that values and understands the importance of a healthy natural
Marbles Kids Museum
Projects: Event and Exhibit Prep
Help prep activity materials for our exhibits and upcoming events. This opportunity will involve cutting, prepping props, cleaning, assembling, and more. Volunteers will work in groups to tackle various projects. Marbles exhibits, programs and events require lots of materials and preparation that are essential to the experience for their guests.
Marbles Kids Museum, located in Raleigh, offers interactive exhibits and hands-on educational programs for children. The museum aims to spark imagination, discovery, and learning through play, providing a dynamic environment for families to explore and learn together.
The Help Center NC
Project: Assembling Care Kits
Assemble Winter Care packages for homeless veterans.
The Help Center NC is a nonprofit dedicated to combating poverty and hunger across multiple counties in North Carolina, including Wake, Raleigh, and Durham. Founded in 2016, the organization provides food assistance, housing referrals, and support services to families in crisis, while also offering educational programs to foster self-sufficiency. Committed to both physical and spiritual well-being, The Help Center NC works with partner agencies to create lasting, transformative change in the lives of those in need, serving a broad community with mobile feeding programs, youth enrichment, and elder support services.
Operation Gratitude
Project: Decorating Pillowcases to Soldiers
Volunteers will get to decorate blank pillowcases to their heart’s content that will be shipped to those serving in our military.
Operation Gratitude is a national nonprofit that seeks to lift the spirits of U.S. military members and first responders. They assemble and deliver care packages to express appreciation and support for their service and sacrifices.
Smiling While Sending Hope
Project: Creating Hospital Care Kits
Volunteers will be developing goodie bags for hospitalized kids and young adults.
Smiling While Sending Hope is a nonprofit organization based in Youngsville, North Carolina, dedicated to supporting individuals aged from birth to 26 who are living with chronic illnesses and special needs. Founded by Katie Haynes, who herself manages multiple chronic conditions, the organization aims to bring joy and comfort to those facing significant health challenges. Their initiatives include distributing “smile packages,” conducting toy drives and creating awareness videos, all designed to uplift and encourage young individuals during difficult times. Their mission is to provide encouragement and hope through personalized, creative expressions.
Made4Me
Project: Create Customized Adaptations
Create customized adaptations for children with special needs out of cardboard. Volunteers can paint cardboard ornaments that they distribute to their families.
Made4Me’s mission is to help improve the lives of people with special needs and those who care for them! They make abilities possible by making personalized items, furniture, and more out of industrial-strength cardboard and giving it to families at no cost to them.
Easterseals PORT Health
Project: Craft Decorations
This project aims to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for the holidays by involving community volunteers in crafting personalized decorations. Volunteers will create festive decorations such as hand-made turkeys, garlands, paper snowflakes, and other holiday-themed artwork.
Easterseals PORT Health are trustworthy, compassionate partners providing exceptional disability, behavioral health, and addiction treatment services to help our neighbors live their best lives. Purpose, dedication, and empathy drive our in-person and telehealth service delivery. Our diverse and inclusive 2,600-member team provides more than 10.2 million hours of meaningful support to 40,200 kids, adults, and families in 11,000 homes, facility, and community locations across North Carolina and Virginia.
Project: Writing Letters for Hope and Gratitude
Write as many letters as you’d like for 4 different organizations: Operation Gratitude, Amy’s Rays of Sunshine, Mission Health, and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.
