About National Volunteer Week

Our local call to action for Points of Light’s larger National Volunteer Week campaign. Since 1974, National Volunteer Week has been an annual campaign celebrating the power of volunteers through service, events, and recognition.

Here in the Triangle, we engage individuals and groups of all ages and sizes, including companies, to impact our community in positive ways through projects throughout the week!

Learn and Serve during National Volunteer Week

During National Volunteer Week, Activate Good highlights our Learn and Serve model, a new, transformative type of volunteering that integrates group learning and discussion into each hands-on volunteer shift. Read more about our Learn and Serve model here!

How will you know if the project you’re signing up for is a Learn and Serve vs. a normal volunteer opportunity?

Easy! We include “Learn and Serve” in the volunteer opportunity title for each project structured using this model, so you know exactly what you’re signing up for. You can also be sure because official Learn and Serve projects are the ones that appear on this list

Registration Required
Space is limited at volunteer projects, so volunteer registration is required.

How can I or my group sign up to volunteer during National Volunteer Week?

Easy! Check out all of the available projects when they open to the public at the link above. (Note: Event Sponsors receive first reservations.)

Review projects to find the one that matches your availability, then click “Sign Up” on the volunteer opportunity to confirm your registration. You’ll get an email confirmation with any additional details your project host has for you.

Volunteering with a group? You can see how many volunteer spots are left for each volunteer opportunity by looking at the “Capacity” label under the volunteer opportunity title on the listing page:

Please note you may need to invite your group members to complete their sign up as well.

I have a volunteer cancellation. What do I do?

You can cancel your volunteer sign up from your confirmation email, or by logging into our volunteer platform (Golden) to cancel from your volunteer dashboard.

Please also email the project host as a courtesy to let them know your plans have changed, just in case they don’t see your cancellation on time.

My company wants to sponsor National Volunteer Week! What do I do?

That’s amazing, we’re so grateful! National Volunteer Week takes a lot of coordination (and sometimes materials), so financial support is so helpful and welcomed!

You can find our most up to date sponsor materials here.
